Jhean-Mychel aka Ellae Naehj is a proud Caribbean mother who is largely self-taught when it comes to making art. She first started experimenting with acrylic paints when she was 17 years old. She didn't discover oils until she was 24 and fell in love! The texture, the smells, the movement was just so different from the acrylics. Jhean-Mychel was born in Jamaica but currently lives in New York. She also dabbles in graphic design and has gained an increased interest in digital art.
The main materials used in Jhean-Mychel's artwork are acrylic and oil paints on stretched canvases or canvas boards. Her style is still evolving as she enjoys doing more abstract art with acrylics and landscapes with oils.
Riddim of Art was chosen as the name because for Jhean-Mychel, music and paintings go hand in hand. Almost all of her completed works were done while actively listening to music. The rhythm of melodies often guides her hands as she paints.
Riddim is Jamaican patois for Rhythm. Jhean-Mychel is extremely proud of her heritage and wanted to make it inclusive in her brand.
